01 / How it started

A familiar problem.
A different way to build.

Before the first line of code

First, the work.

Picking. Packing. Dispatch. Returns. Years spent on warehouse floors and inside ERP systems gave our founder a close-up view of what operators actually need—and where software gets in their way.

Then, a better fit.

OpsUI was founded in Wainui, north of Auckland, by Heinricht Smith and Liam Barry. The idea was simple: give teams the operational tools they need, with the freedom to choose their scope. New Zealand and Australian domains launched in the same week.

The way forward

Built with the people who use it.

Today, 20 operational modules and 5 integration connectors make up the platform. We’re bootstrapped and self-funded. The operators we onboard help shape what comes next, and the builders stay involved from the first conversation through go-live.

Founder

Software & Systems Builder · ERP/WMS & NetSuite · Wainui, NZ

He built the software he once needed on the floor. Operator-tested, ERP/WMS focused, written by someone who has done the picking and packing himself. 8+ years building products across online games, community SaaS and ERP/WMS: game systems at Hytech Studios that reached 20M+ plays and 10k+ concurrent players, then product, marketing and growth for ValoTracker, a Discord platform that scaled to 420k+ users. Three-plus years on the floor too, picking, packing, dispatch, and RMAs at Arrowhead Alarm Products (a NetSuite shop), plus Mighty Ape's peak Christmas season as a stock controller, including 2+ years operating NetSuite (Oracle ERP) daily. He designs and builds the OpsUI platform across the full stack (TypeScript, React, Node, Postgres), with a live bidirectional NetSuite integration via SuiteTalk and REST, and works every rollout from first call through go-live. NetSuite SuiteFoundation certification in progress; licensed forklift & reach-truck operator. Wainui, north of Auckland, is where the work happens, and where the company is registered.

The AI operator built into OpsUI. OPIE can access any function in the ERP, turning plain-language requests into actions across your operation. From CRM and orders to inventory and warehouse workflows, he helps your team streamline tasks and automate repetitive work. Tell him what needs doing, and he can work across the system to get it done. Here on the website, OPIE helps you explore the platform, answers product questions and takes you to the right page.

When was OpsUI founded?
OpsUI was founded in January 2026 in Wainui, New Zealand. opsui.co.nz and opsui.au launched the same week, and Australian customers are served online with AU-region infrastructure and Australian business-hour coverage.
Are you VC-backed or bootstrapped?
Bootstrapped and self-funded by the founders. We answer to customers, not investors, which is part of why pricing is on the page and the roadmap is honest about what is shipped versus what is planned.
Where is OpsUI data hosted?
NZ production data stays in NZ and AU production data stays in AU. Each region runs on its own domain (opsui.co.nz / opsui.au) with its own database. We do not replicate customer data across the Tasman.
What is the tech stack?
TypeScript end to end. React on the front, Node on the API, Postgres for primary storage. The marketing site is Vite + Tailwind. We pick boring, well-supported tools so the team can spend its energy on the modules.
